Environmental Policies

All vendors and independent contractors must have proof of insurance on file and register with and receive approval from the Marina Manager or Dockmaster before beginning any work on the marina property. All subcontractors must comply with the vendor rules and regulations and the environmental best management practices. Owners may undertake boat projects as needed to maintain vessel safety, appearance and utility. New or substantial exterior work encompassing more than 35 percent of the hull’s surface must be reviewed by the manager. Marina management encourages all vessel owners to adhere to the following Best Management Practices:

ENGINES & BILGES

  • Use absorbent bilge pads to soak up oil and fuel.D
  • Dispose of oil and diesel according to the marina policies.
  • Dispose of gasoline according to the marina policies.
  • Do not discharge bilge water if there is sheen in it.
  • Do not dispose of any fuels or used oil or oil filters in the marina waste containers.
  • Contact management for nearest recycling locations for authorized disposal containers.
  • Dispose of used batteries according to the marina policies.
  • Do not dispose of batteries in the marina waste containers.

PAINTING & VARNINSHING

  • Limit the amount of open solvents or paints on the dock.
  • Always mix paint and epoxy over a tarp.
  • Always use drip pan and drop cloth.
  • Spray painting is not allowed within the marina.
  • Purchase only quantities of paint needed.
  • Do not dispose of paints or solvents in the marina’s waste containers.
  • Contact management for the nearest recycling and disposal locations.

SURFACE PREPARATION

  • Use biodegradable cleaners and teak cleaners.
  • Liberally use tarps to capture all scrapings, debris, and drips.
  • Stretch tarps between side of boat and dock when working over the water.
  • Vacuum dust and debris every time you move the tarp or every hour.
  • Reverse the boat in the slip to work on the far side.

SEWAGE

  • UNTREATED SEWAGE SHOULD NEVER BE DISCHARGED DIRECTLY OVERBOARD.
  • Store sewage in holding tanks and dispose of properly at the pump out station.
  • Ensure MSD Type 1 systems work properly and discharge only when underway.
  • Do not discharge Type 1 while moored in the marina.

SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL

  • Dispose of all garbage in proper shore side receptacles.
  • Let empty paint cans dry thoroughly before disposing in the trash.
  • Do not throw fish remains overboard.

CHEMICAL STORAGE

  • Purchase only the amount of chemicals, paints you need for the project.
  • Purchase only quantity of paint needed. See management for proper disposal of unused paints and solvents.
  • Do not store fuels or solvents on docks, in dock boxes or finger piers.

ALL HAZARDOUS WASTE MUST BE DISPOSED OF PROPERLY
